This half term our topic is ‘Growth’. We will be learning about different types of plants and animals, focusing on the habitats that they live in and the things that they need to grow.
We have started to grow some bean seeds, courgettes, tomatoes and lettuce in our growing areas. The children are looking forward to seeing how their growth rates develop over the next few months. We now have some chick eggs in Reception which we will keep for two weeks. The children will have the opportunity to feed them, change their bedding and watch them grow! It would be great if you could discuss these exciting things with your children at home.
If you know anyone that works in the gardening or farming profession that can come in and discuss any of the topic areas that we are learning about, please let a member of the Reception team know.
We are also looking forward to taking the children to the farm which will enhance the children’s learning further.
Homework will be given out on Fridays and will need to be completed by Tuesday.
Homework will consist of four pieces of online learning – (two maths activities and two English activities). Please support your child to log in and complete the tasks. The activities should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
We are always encouraging the children to be independent learners so please support your child to complete his/her homework and offer guidance where appropriate. If you would like further guidance on how to support your child with home learning and any additional activities that you can complete at home, please feel free to speak to a member of the Reception team.
PE takes place on Wednesday afternoons. Please provide your child with a full kit for this day. During these lessons, your child will be learning specific skills that include throwing, catching, kicking and moving our bodies in different ways.
Your child will read with an adult at school weekly. Please read with your child daily at home, including practicing sight reading the list of high frequency words.
Once you have read with your child, please sign, his/her reading record and make a comment letting us know how well they read. Reading books are now changed daily. If you would like your child’s book to be changed, please read with your child and sign the reading record.
Attendance and punctuality
Your child’s attendance at school is vital to their educational success. Learning time is lost every time your child is absent and this limits the amount of progress that can be made. Please ensure that your child is at school every day. If your child is sick, please call the school office to inform a member of staff in the morning and each subsequent morning of sickness until your child returns to school.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school and is collected promptly every day. School hours are 8:50am-3:15pm. Lateness also contributes to lost learning time and can also be unsettling for the child.
Please ensure that your child brings his/her book bag to school every day. These are essential for carrying books of various sizes to and from school. They are also needed to carry homework and various letters that your child may receive throughout the week.
